In March 2014 the creators of South Park, the classic cartoon for adults, Trey Parker and Matt Stone in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment launched South Park: The Stick of Truth for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The game is 2D and viewed from the third person perspective. The player must create a character who is “the new kid”. The new kid (Cartman doesn’t care about whatever name you use, he calls you D%*@#ebag is the one chosen to protect the stick of truth from the elves. The person who controls the stick of truth “controls the universe”. The player must choose a warrior class; there are 4 classes, Fighter, Mage, Thief and Jew.
The game is set in the town of South Park which the player is free to roam around interacts with the characters. In the opening battle even though the elves are defeated, Clyde loses the stick of truth and is banished by Cartman from all space and time. The player must now retrieve the stick of truth. The player must complete tasks and battles to level up,, there are several types of weapons and magic spells as well as potions to recover health or powerpoints) called pp.
Along with the main quests there are also side quests the player can complete, the player can travel quickly throughout South Park with the help of Timmy. The player can also fight alongside the show’s regular characters like Cartman, Butters, Stan and Kyle. It also features characters like Tweek, Token, Craig, Randy Marsh, Mr Mackey, Mr Hankey, Santa, Jesus and Mr Garrison.
Several of the songs in the game were in South Park episodes. Several of the bosses and enemies the player will face are also characters in SouthPark episodes like Chef and zombies. The battles are turn based i.e. each side takes turns at attacking each other and defending themselves. Success depends on the skill of the player and the weapons he’s using. Some weapons are highly effective against certain opponents. The game also allows you to network with your allies and the people of SouthPark, including Al Gore.
The map of South Park in the game is identical to the town in the show; it has all the iconic buildings of South Park like Tom’s Rhinoplasty, City Wok, the Tower of Peace and Jimbo’s Guns. The game itself takes some getting used to but is excellent once you get the hang of it, especially if you’re a die hard South Park fan like we are, we strongly recommend you purchase this game. This game has already received great reviews from gamers and critics alike, it’s about time you try it for yourself.
