At last the time of the year has arrived when all ganesh bhakts who were eagerly waiting for the Ganesh festival are bringing Ganesha home. During this time, there is a unique, but a perfect balance which strikes between the body and the soul. During the 10 day long festival , family and friends gather together and every household installs a Ganesh idol and worship it during this elaborate festival. But if you dont know how to perform the puja, why to worry when we are there. We share with you this very simple procedure of to perform special Ganesh Chaturthi puja.
We start the holy festival by bringing the lovable and cute Ganpati idol at home. Things to add to your cart while bringing the idol is the Aggarbatti and Dhoop, Aarti thali with lightened lamps, paan leaf, separate clean cloth for covering the idol, another cloth piece made up of sandalwood and Sandli. Once all these are arranged in a proper way then the puja starts with lighting the aggarbatti and dhoop which is beautifully placed in the thali. Then place the paan leaf with a Supari on top of it in front of Sandli. And the most important thing is to chant the mantra of ‘Om Gan Ganpate Namah’. While bringing the Ganesha idol home it’s important to cover the face of the idol with a clean cloth and remove the same only on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Once Ganesha reaches your home place a bowl of rice in front of the door and shower the same on the murti. While placing the idol on the pedestal, put some raw rice and keep supari, haldi, kumkum, abhil and dakshina.
Major requirements for the Puja:
After placing the idol there are certain rituals to be followed in the traditional way, which includes red flowers, druva grass blades, modak (favourite dish), coconut, red chandan, incense and aggarbattis. Now the main procedure starts with cleaning the house and entire family must sit for the puja and start chant the golden mantra. The primary step in puja is the Pran-Pratishtha, that’s the reason why pundits are required to chant the holy mantras and invoke the lord as the mantra is in Sanskrit. It is accompanied with aarti, lightening of lamps, aggarbattis. It’s essential to put tilak on the forehead of lord and to break the coconut which symbolizes a good beginning. This is simply the traditional way of performign the puja, and the following ritual is quite flexible.
Follow these basic steps and pray in front of Bappa and rest will fall into place. The most important thing here is to worship him with open mind and heart – so that Bappa can grant you with wisdom, prosperity, good health. Happy Ganesh Chaturthi! गणपती बाप्पा मोरया !
