Rahul Gandhi, Omar Abdullah: Top 7 politicians who shamed their political ancestry

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, son of late Benazir Bhutto courted a controversy when he said, “I will take back Kashmir, all of it, and I will not leave behind a single inch of it because, like the other provinces, it belongs to Pakistan.” We know it is absurd and equivalently bizarre. The political leaders in India wouldn’t have made as much ridiculous comments, but they were as much laughable as much former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s son.

Bilawal Bhutto would easily find his counterparts here in India, who made as much nonsensical and foot-in-mouth comments over the past few years. Be it Rahul Gandhi, Omar Abdullah, or Prashant Bhushan; the son’s of famous revered politicians have shamed their political ancestry.

We have listed some politico pairs who have faced the brunt in social media and have been the butt of jokes for a considerable time. Here are some famous father-son and mother-son duos and relatives of politicos who made us laugh several times by their dumb remarks.

1.            Rahul Gandhi (son of Congress President Sonia Gandhi)

There is no other choice than Rahul Gandhi when it comes to match the level of stupidity with others. “Gujarat is bigger than United Kingdom,” “Poverty is a state of mind,” “Hindustan ek soch hai. Hindustan ek jagah hai… magar Hindustan ek soch hai,” “Escape velocity” are all examples of Rahul Gandhi’s high IQ level and how much he is loved by his party members. The recent comment, “People who go to temples, rape,” further explains of what the ‘Cambridge pass-out’ is capable of.

2.            Abhishek Banerjee (nephew of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee)

“Is this protest due to the banning of drugs, liquor and charas in the campus?” said Abhishek Banerjee on Facebook, to those students who took to streets demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor and the Registrar of the Jadavpur University. Does the matter of resignation and banning drugs co-relate?

3.            Abhijit Mukherjee (son of President Pranab Mukherjee)

“Those who are coming in the name of students in the rallies; sundori, sundori mahila (beautiful women) are highly dented and painted,” said Abhijit in an interview on a local news channel. However it became equivalently distasteful to Abhijit when his sister came out in media and apologized for his brothers abnormal remarks.

4.            Akhilesh Yadav (son of former UP chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav)

The Yadavs of Uttar Pradesh are nothing new in delivering foot-in-mouth remarks. There are innumerable instances one can point out. Akhilesh Yadav, when questioned about the rising lawlessness (during the Badaun rape episode) prevailing in the state, said to female reporters, “Aapko toh koi khatra nahi hua? Surakshit hain, Dhanyavaad! (Did you face any danger? You’re safe, thank you!)”

5.            Omar Abdullah (son of former Jammu and Kashmir chief Minister Farooq Abdullah)

“What can I do? I haven’t brought the rain, nor can I stop it,” said J&K CM Omar Abdullah, when asked about the slow pace of flood operations in the valley. Both father-son duo are accustomed to make such comments. Few months back, when the controversy over Article 370 erupted, Omar said, “Mark my words & save this tweet – long after Modi Govt is a distant memory either J&K won’t be part of India or Art 370 will still exist.”

6.            Prashant Bhushan (son of Aam Aadmi Party ‘AAP’ founding member Shanti Bhushan)

A senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Prashant Bhushan was beaten up in his chamber in Supreme Court on his comments on Jammu and Kashmir. Bhushan in an interview reportedly said, “Kashmiri people should be given ‘azadi’ if they don’t want to live with India.” Bhushan also batted for the withdrawal of Indian Army from Kashmir.

7.            Owaisi Brothers

Asaduddin and Akbaruddin Owaisi are brothers, and belong to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party based in Andhra Pradesh. The duo is widely known for spewing venom against Hindu community time and again. “Muslims of India would need only 15 minutes without the police to show the Hindus of India who is more powerful,” “The Pakistani child (Ajmal Kasab) was hanged just because he was a Pakistani but Modi is not being hanged because he is an Indian,” are some examples.
