Aamir Khan’s PK surprised us with its uniqueness. The movie that released on December 19 ahead of Christmas has been well received by critics who have given a generally positive movie review. We happened to view the first day, first show of PK and thought there were seven things that we found absolutely great in the movie. And we’re not just talking about Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma and Rajkumar Hirani’s direction, but also little things that added to the overall proceedings.
Anushka Sharma-Sushant Singh Rajput India-Pakistan romance in PK:
An India-Pakistan romantic angle has been covered before in Bollywood and other Indian films. But to do it so convincingly and without any hassles could only be done by Rajkumar Hirani. And thankfully, there is a mystery to the romance and (SPOILER) no violent end.
Ranbir Kapoor’s cameo in PK:
Well, the news is already out so we needn’t call it a spoiler. But if you need a confirmation, then yes, Ranbir Kapoor does have a cameo in Aamir Khan’s PK. And oh, what a cute cameo it is! But hey, guess what, there is a SPOILER – Ranbir also goes nanga punga like Aamir Khan!
Adorable Aamir Khan in PK:
We’ve found him adorable in every movie since his debut in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. But the good part is, Aamir has not overdone his cuteness as an (SPOILER) alien in PK. He acts just perfectly – no nuance here and there but right on target. It’s a superb performance by him – although his role has shades of his character in 3 Idiots. But that could be attributed to director Rajkumar Hirani who has a hangover of 3 Idiots that was his directorial as well.
God and Superstitions in PK:
Yes, it has been done in OMG: Oh My God! earlier. But Raju Hirani’s treatment of the subject is to be seen to be believed. The business of selling God by all religions is scripted and portrayed in a prolific way.
Our every day Hypocrisies and the ‘Wrong Number’ in PK:
Scenes like the importance of Mahatma Gandhi only on a currency note to the condom falling from the pocket, to lack of real communication through the spoken word, to the temple and deity scenes, and many more leave you enthralled. Audiences were clapping all the way.
Humour and seriousness mix in PK:
The way our misgivings and the rituals of each religion are portrayed with humour without offending anyone is superb. The movie is a must watch because of that. But it has a dose of seriousness too, especially towards the end.
Aamir Khan’s love story in PK:
Thank god this movie is real! A love story between an (SPOILER) an alien and a human being on Earth is highly unlikely for the next few thousand years, at least. Aamir Khan’s love for Anushka Sharma is not revealed by him and nipped in the bud.
Rating: 3.5 stars
