Pakistan vs Zimbabwe, ICC World Cup 2015: Misbah-ul-Haq, Wahab Riaz’s fifty & other highlights of PAK innings
Misbah-ul-Haq and Wahab Riaz scored half-centuries
Batting first Pakistan managed to post 235 for 7 in 50 overs after losing wickets at regular intervals. Captain Misbah-ul-Haq once again stood out with his performance and remained top scorer for Pakistan with 73. Wahab Riaz’s blazing half-century towards the end lifted Pakistan hopes as his innings gave them slight impetus. Jamshed, Shehzad continue to be dismal: Openers, Nasir Jamshed and Ahmed Shehzad once again failed to provide Pakistan with a solid start and fell early on. Jamshed was the first one to go, he lost his wicket in second over of Pakistan innings. And then in fourth over Shehzad was sent back. Both openers were removed by Tendai Chatara. Jamshed managed to score just a run while Shehzad was out for an 11-ball duck. With two wickets down, Misbah-ul-Haq and Haris Sohail restored some pride with a 54 –run stand for the third wicket, before Sohail was dismissed by Sikandar Raza. Sean Williams strikes twice: At fall of Sohail’s wicket Umar Akmal joined Misbah and the two looked comfortable. Both scored occasional boundaries and kept rotating strike. But it was in 34th over when Williams struck twice to leave Pakistan at 127 for 5 from 127 for 3. Williams broke the 69-run stand for the fourth wicket between Akmal and Misbah by dismissing former. He cleaned up Akmal with his quicker one and then two balls later removed Shahid Afridi.
Misbah, Wahab score fifties: With rest of batsmen failing to contribute, Pakistan skipper played a valuable knock in the middle to keep Pakistan scoreboard ticking. Misbah scored 73 off 121 balls and kept his chin up. With wickets falling around him, he kept fighting hard. In order to look for quick runs in death overs the Skipper lost his wicket to leave Pakistan at 202 for 7. It was then Wahab Riaz’s lustrous blows towards the end that took Pakistan to 235 for 7 in 50 overs. Wahab scored unbeaten 54 off 46 balls, which included six fours and a lone six of Pakistan innings.
