The Lakme Fashion Week is back for the Summer/Resort 2014 edition. The show kickstarted on March 11 with Bollywood’s favourite designer Manish Malhotra! This five day event will see some very new and unique designs as well as some very new concepts. Here are the top 5 things to look out for in this Fashion Week!
Summer Affair Collection
He is the to-go guy of Bollywood and has a sense of style that is both bold and elegant. His collection, ‘A Summer Affair’ is the most awaited one at the Lakme Fashion Week. Sheer and lightweight fabrics such as organza, Georgette and tulle make the ensembles in hues of pink, powder blue and beige summer-friendly. The men’s collection has outfits with print on print and different textures in contemporary Indian jackets. Kurtas also get a makeover as shirt kurtas. Also consisting of summer skirt lehengas with pockets, bolero jackets with kurtas and easy slim pants, the range will also be available at his new stores here and in New Delhi. His collection was showcased yesterday at the Grand Hayat, Mumbai.
A Motley Love
Kolkata-based designer Sayantan Sarkar will bring a taste of “new age romance” via his collection, A Motley Love at the forthcoming edition of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) summer-resort 2014. From jumpsuits to dresses and jackets to draped trousers, the collection comprises a quirky range of layered silhouettes for both men and women.
This Mumbai based designer is all set with her summer collection which is inspired by Persian and Egyptian designs. Blended with bright colours like yellow and orange and soothing ones like beige, off-white and hues of blue, her collection gives a fresh and relaxing feel for the upcoming summer. Old coins of 10 paisa and ancient keys are used for ornamentation and embellishment of the fabric silhouette. The kitsch print with the eye-soothing colour combination is just the desirable treat to eyes and a luxurious style statement for the body.
Celebrity Fashion Designer Payal Singhal will unveil her latest collection titled Lady Sahara at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. The Payal Singhal Summer 2014 collection inspired by the French Moroccan culture and architecture is an ode to the cultural crossroad of Marrakech and the shapes and the grace of Islamic architecture. In the early 1900’s the French occupied Morocco and much of the French culture persisted even after Morocco gained independence. The collection references these contrasting cultures in its textures and colours.
The collection done in tulle, linen and silk in muted colours of sand, grey, rose and cerulean blue is a modern interpretation of a bygone era. The intricate patterns of Moroccan filigree work are incorporated in detailed embroidery in beaten silver, gold and salmon “Kora” and graphic prints.
When it comes to Lakme Fashion Week, the end is as important as the beginning. The Ace designer Rajesh Pratap Singh will close this event with his summer collections based on the theme ‘Illusion’. Singh’s collection is inspired by Lakmé Absolute Color Illusion and will show simplistic cuts with minimal but flawless detailing. This collection will surely be star studded with the Glamorous B-town girl Kareena Kapoor being the Show-stopper.
