India vs Australia 2nd Test, Day 4: 5 interesting highlights of the day’s play at the Gabba
India lost four wickets for just 16 runs in the early part of the day's play and never really recovered.
Resuming on an overnight score of 71 for one India, were looking all set to extend their lead on day four, but disastrous show by batsmen meant the visitors were bowled out for 224 and thus leaving Australia to get 128 runs to win. In reply, Australia crawled to victory with four wickets in hand to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series. Here is how action unfolded on the fourth day of the Gabba Test.
Shikhar Dhawan injured, Virat Kohli walks in: India suffered an early setback when Shikhar Dhawan could not make it to bat as he was injured in the nets. Instead of Dhawan, it was Virat Kohli who came out to bat along with Cheteshwar Pujara.
Indian middle order crumbles: India lost four wickets for just 16 runs in the early part of the day’s play and never really recovered from that and that saw Australia take control of things at the Gabba. Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma all fell to Mitchell Johnson in quick succession and then Josh Hazelwood trapped Captain MS Dhoni in front of the wickets to leave India tottering at 87 for five, still trailing by 10 runs. India in deep trouble at lunch: Cheteshwar Pujara along with Ravichandran Ashwin tried to held Indian innings together but both batsmen fell before the lunch. While Ashwin was misjudged caught behind off Mitchell Starc as the snickometer showed that no bat involved, Pujara fell to Hazelwood. Dhawan, who came out to bat after Ashwin’s dismissal, was then joined by Umesh Yadav and the two kept their wickets intact till lunch break with scoreboard reading 157 for 7.
India all-out for 224: 60-run stand for the eight-wicket between Dhawan and Yadav saw India cross the 200-run mark and in the process former also got to his half-century. While the two were looking to salvage some pride, Nathan Lyon struck and removed Dhawan, who scored 81. The tail then could not wag and India were eventually bowled out for 224. With 1st innings lead 97 runs Australia then required only 128 runs to win. (Also Read: For how long will BCCI turn blind eye to umpiring howlers?)

Australia lost six wickets but they eventually chased down the target with Chris Rogers scoring 55. Australia Captain Steven Smith was then adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant century in the 1st innings. With this win Australia now lead the four-match series 2-0.
