Ganeshotsav is the one of the major festivals celebrated in India and will be celebrated on September 5th. Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav festival was first celebrated by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja, the great Maratha ruler and since then it is being continued. Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati who were born on the fourth day of Magh and especially during that time there is an interconnection between Ganesh and Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi festival lasts for 10 days and ends on the day of Ananta Chaturdashi, whcih is mostly observed during the month of Bhadra i.e. mid-August or mid-September. There is a myth saying that Lord Ganesha were created out of sandalwood paste which was been used by Parvati and further she breathe life into that statue. Further Parvati gave him the task of guarding the door when she bathed and strictly told him not to allow anyone. Meanwhile Lord Shiva came back from meditation desired to see his wife but was stopped by Ganesha who had no clue that he was his father. He obeyed his mother instructions and did not allow Shiva to enter. This led to the combat between a son (Ganesha) and his father (Shiva). This auspicious festival is celebrated with a lot of devotion and Lord Ganesha always used to love sweets especially modaks and laddoos were one of his favorite delicacies. Mostly these sweets are offered and served to Lord Ganesha as prasad, naivedya or bhog. 1. Ukadiche or steamed modak: 

This is one of the most popular sweet dishes and is made during Ganesh Chaturthi. It is typically a Maharashtrian recipe made from rice flour and in Marathi it is termed as ukadiche modak, that is basically steamed modaks. This sweet is also loved by Ganeshji.

2. Puran Poli: 

Puran poli is another very popular Maharashtrian recipe especially made during this festival. Puran is the sweet filling and the outer covering is called poli (roti). It is a flat bread stuffed with sweet lentil and made from chana dal or Bengal gram and yummy jaggery. Puran Poli one of the most famous traditional Maharashtrian mouth watering dish. It is basically a sweet flat bread which is made by adding yellow gram, cardamom, jaggery and grated coconut.

3. Coconut laddoos:

This delicious recipe is made with desiccated coconut and can be prepared very quickly. It doesn’t actually take time to melt in the mouth as well!

4. Shrikhand:

This Indian sweet dish is made up of strained yoghurt and this dish has been evolved from Maharashtrian traditional cuisine. You can enhance the Shrikhand’s taste by adding some dry fruits in it. Apart from this other ingredients which are added during the process of making Shrikhand are cardamom powder, saffron and sugar. On the day of Gudi Padwa, people just love to have Shrikhand-Puri and celebrate the auspcious festival.

5. Besan laddoo: 

These are sweetened roasted chickpea flour balls spiced with cardamom and nutmeg. They are just delicious and made during special occasions.

6. Puri:

Puri is a made up of wheat flour and is deep fried and crispy. These breads can be easily consumed with batatyachi bhaji (potato veg dish) or chilled sweet dish Shrikhand. But if you are health conscious, think twice before you plan to eat this oily dish and also the dessert!

7. Gulab Jamun:

Gulab jamun is basically a desset or sweet mithai which is made up of freshly curdled milk and further garnished with dried nuts like almonds to enhance flavors.

8. Patholi:

You would be wondering what Patholi is and what is so special about it. Patholis are steamed rice rolls which are stuffed with mouthwatering fillings like coconut and jaggery and are made in some households on Ganpati. The amazing thing about this sweet is its preparing technique. Patholis are steamed in turmeric leaves which capture its aroma.

 9. Motichoor laddoo:

Most popular traditional Indian sweet dish made from gram flour besan. It is one of the favorite dishes of Lord Ganesha and has a lot of importance during the aarti.

10. Karanji (Dumpling)

Karanjis are nothing but another sweet dish, deep fried and made up of dough, flour and bread that include grated coconut and sugar. It has a sweet and crunchy filling mixed with dough. It is one of the popular dishes which are made at the time of other Hindu festivals too.

11. Moong Dal Ka Halwa

Mostly the devotees prepare lot of dishes to offer to Lord Ganesha on this auspicious day. This dish is also loved by Lord Ganesha and is one among the delicacies.
