A cup of coffee is all you need when you are, well, anywhere! You cannot say no to coffee! Our beloved beverage is something that suits all our moods, and we love at any time of the day. 1. Energy drinks still don’t have as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. The caffeine content per 236 ml (that is roughly one cup) of coffee is around 163 mg, while energy drinks contain only half that amount of caffeine. This, although, does not mean that coffee contains more energy than, say a Redbull. Energy drinks contain other sources of energy like vitamins etc. that coffee doesn’t!

2. Coffee is the world’s second most valuable traded commodity, only behind petroleum! Coffee is a globally traded commodity just like oil. Actually, coffee is the second-most traded commodity with oil being the first, and like oil, the prices of coffee also keep fluctuating. Also, coffee is generally traded in financial instruments known as futures contracts, and this is mainly done through the New York Board of Trade.

3. Instant Coffee was invented by a man called George Washington around 1910. A Belgian by birth, he invented the instant coffee process and named his company the G. Washington Coffee Company!

4. Coffee taken in proper amounts is very beneficial to the health. In fact, coffee improves the blood flow in the body. To study the health effects of coffee, King Gustav III of Sweden commuted the death sentences of a pair of twins on the condition that one drank 3 pots of coffee and the other tea for the rest of their lives! Unfortunately, the doctors who were monitoring the twins died before the twins, and King Gustav was assassinated soon. Although the one who drank tea died first at the age of 83, the coffee-drinking one’s date of dying is unknown.

5. New Yorkers are considered the most voracious drinkers of coffee, gulping on an average 7 cups of coffee a day. But as far as countries go, Netherlands is the world’s largest per capita consumer of coffee, averaging 2.4 cups of coffee per person per day.
