Apurvi Chandela, Sathish Sivalingam– Meet the 6 ‘first time’ medal winners for India in Commonwealth Games

India, currently the 7th ranked team in the medal tally would be entering the sixth day of competition with all eyes on its shooters, wrestlers and boxers. The country would be hoping for some gold medals today to improve its ranking and regain the top 5 position.

Numbers can be misleading at times and this is what India’s ranking currently indicates. The country has not done as badly as it might seem. Barring for few odd let downs in badminton, table tennis and squash, the performance by Indian athletes has been good under the circumstance that they have been ‘robbed off’ of many pet events in which they have won medals in the past. Some of the notable contributions in India’s success came from the first time medal winners. The performance of these athletes is appreciable, applaud-able and deserves mention!
