Pradeep Sarkar’s Mardaani that released on August 22, 2014, got an average opening at the box office in India. Rani Mukerji the main lead and protagonist of the film plays a bold and ferocious Crime Branch cop in the film whose plot revolves around Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji) combating the human trafficking mafia.

The name of the movie Mardaani has been taken from the poem Khub Ladi Mardaani, Woh Toh Jhansi Wali Rani Thi. Looks like Rani has put in a lot of efforts to play her role of a bold and fiery super cop. She has done justice to her role and the storyline of the movie makes it even more gripping for the audience.

Here is a glimpse of the making of Mardaani. Know how the team battled the odds to get it right on screen. Right from the movie behind-the-scenes to the interview of some of the characters from Mardaani, this making video has it all for Rani fans.

Rani Mukerji shares her experience of playing a police officer and the challenges that she came across while enacting the role. Rani was pretty much excited to play a Crime Branch officer in Mardaani and did lots of research for her role. She actually visited some Crime Branch officers to understand and relate to the functioning of the police.

Rani tried to incorporate the emotional dilemma and the mental status of these officers while dealing with a sensitive case like Shivani Shivaji Roy’s. To sum up her experience, Rani, “For me, it’s a very inspiring character. It’s an inspiring role.”

To support Rani’s statement, director Pradeep Sarkar said, “Shivani Shivaji Roy is Rani Mukerji and Rani Mukerji is Shivani Shivaji Roy. Believe it. She has that strength in her, she has that tevar in her and she almost imitates Rani in every detail. The whole character, Shivani Shivaji Roy evolved from Rani.”
