Parineeti Chopra reacts to an ill-informed male journalist on menstruation
No matter in which century we live, topics relating to women’s menstruation are usually avoided by the general public. Being considered as a taboo by the larger audience, discussing the issue is commonly not allowed by elders. However, it is a happy news that the younger generations actors do not believe similarly. In a press conference by Whisper, Parineeti Chopra reacted to a misinformed male journalist who did not know what exactly period is.
Although she could not manage to make him ask the question correctly, she made the journalist repeat the questions again. Towards the end she says that it is a shame that a 24 year male journalist did not know what menstruation is or anything related to it. She said that it is essential that people understand the procedure and girls accordingly. She focuses on the point that it is considered as a fault in a girl and instead should be respected.
A recent initiative called ‘Touch the Pickle’ by Whisper, one of India’s leading sanitary napkin was an eye opener for millions of Indians which said that there was no logic behind the saying that menstruating women should not touch pickle. Parineeti’s reaction is a similar one which has the potential to bring change to the Indians with similar mentality.
