The landmark Patan Durbar Square in Kathmandu, Nepal, was reduced to bits in the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that tore through the kingdom nation lasting for two minutes. The devastating quake killed over 2,500 people, leaving four times as many injured. The aftershocks that followed has left the natives in utter shock. This video is a peek into the panic witnessed at Patan Durbar just after quake hit the place. The footage captures the panic as people run helter skelter after the quake brought down the historic places to just broken wood and mud. (READ: Patan Durbar Square shattered completely)

The injured can be seen rushing out of the place for help. The Kathmandu valley was disrupted by the quake and one can see the birds circling the vicinity. Four of the buildings in the site were tagged as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. According to UNESCO, the structures portrayed highly developed craftsmanship of brick, timber and bronze in the world. Some believe the structures to be best examples of stone architecture. After witnessing calamity strike the historical structures, the organisation that promotes harmony has pledged to reconstruct them again.

The latest reported figure suggests that 3000 residents of Nepal have lost their lives and rescue operations are going on to save the trapped. The natives are also said to have spent nights in the open after the tremor destroyed their homes. Many, whose homes are not damaged, are fearful of returning as the aftershocks that followed threaten to cause more destruction.
