I saw my mother raped! This statement is enough to give every single thinking mind sleepless nights at a stretch. And the person who is recalling this horrific moment is 21-year-old, human right activist, Yeonmi Park, who fled from her birthplace North Korea. Her speech at the One Young World conference in Dublin highlights the gory land of North Korea run by Dictator Kim Jong Un.

Yeonmi Park, who has become an epitome of courage and brave face, was invited to participate in One Young World Summit in 2014 gave a heart-wrenching speech that moved everyone to tears. Yeonmi shared accounts of how there is not freedom in North Korea. She shared how she witnessed her friend’s mother being executed for her mistake was – watching a Hollywood movie!

The lives of North Korean are worse than one can imagine for her miseries did not stop with her fleeing to another land. Wiping her tears away, choking over words, Park recalled how it was her mother who sacrificed her mother to protect her. She said, “There is a saying in North Korea: Women are weak, mothers are strong”. She said it was her mother who allowed herself to be raped by the hands of a Chinese broker in order to protect her when she was 13. Park’s her mother was a nurse for the North Korean Army.

She asked for help and said that North Koreans are desperately seeking and dying for freedom at this moment. She made an appeal to all the Government of the world to put pressure on China to stop repatriation. She talked about it for the North Korean immigrants are being victimized to no end. She highlights how it is the Kims that have violated their rights under the dictatorship.
