Weightlifter Omkar Otari wins 5th bronze for India in the Commonwealth Games 2014

Omkar Otari gave a reason to smile for the Indian weightlifting camp as he won the bronze medal in weightlifting men’s 69kg event.With his bronze medal, Omkar not only secured third place at the event but also made sure to hand India its fifth bronze medal that will now take the Indian medal tally to 17 medals. India have now won 5 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medal so far. Indian weightlifter Omkar Otari earlier had failed to lift 162kg in third and last attempt of clean & jerk category at men’s weightlifting 69kg event. Omkar had successfully lifted 136kg in snatch category of men’s weightlifting 69kg event but failed to lift 162kg in third and last attempt.

Earlier in the day, Rajwinder Kaur won bronze medal against Kenya Esther Akinyi Ratugi in the judo women’s +78kg event of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. But not great news for Indian judoka Jina Devi Chongtham who loset bronze medal fight in the women’s -78kg event.

The day also saw Indian shooter Rahi Sarnobat win the gold and Anisa Sayyed take silver in the women’s 25 metre pistol event of the Commonwealth Games at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre here Saturday.Playing the gold medal match against her compatriot, Rahi scored eight points to Sayyed’s two. Australia’s Lalita Yauhleuskaya took the bronze.
