Novak Djokovic earns top spot at the US Open 2014

The seeds of the Men’s singles of the year’s last Grand Slam US Open 2014 have been announced with the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia earning the top seed. The reigning Wimbledon Champion, Djokovic had won US Open in 2011 and has appeared in the last four US Open singles finals. While in the absence of No. 2 in the world rankings and defending champion Rafael Nadal pulling out of the tournament due to his right wrist injury, World No. 3 Roger Federer claimed the second seed spot in the US Open 2014. Roger Federer, 33, who last won at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in 2008, looks in great shape coming into the tournament after winning hard-fought final battle against Spanish David Ferrer to take Cincinnati Masters. Federer has won US Open 5-times and is one of the strongest contenders to take the last major of the year.

2014 Australian Open and Federer’s countryman Stanislas Wawrinka takes the third spot as losing Cincinnati Masters 2014 finalist David Ferrer is seeded fourth at the tournament. Some major gainers in the seeds have been talented rising player on tour, Milos Raonic from Canada, who has impressed everyone throughout the year is the No. 5 seed. Another 23-year-old player, Grigor Dimitrov also features in top 10 seed for the first time. The Bulgarian player is the No. 7 seed; Frenchmen Richard Gasquet who was a semi-finalist here in 2013 is the No. 12 and John Isner is the only American to feature in top-32 seeds.

The major pullouts apart from Rafael Nadal are the 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, former world No. 2 Tommy Haas, and rising players Alexandr Dolgopolov and Nicolas Almagro.
