There was no surprising result here at the Arthur Ashe Stadium as the American top seed Serena Williams brushed aside her close friend and tenth seed Caroline Wozniacki in an one-sided final. Serena Williams won her 18th major title at Arthur Ashe Stadium by beating Caroline in straight sets 6-3,6-3. Serena now finds herself sharing records of winning most number of grand slam titles with Martina Navartilova and Chris Evert. Both the legends were present on the court to congratulate the US Open 2014 champion.

Serena Williams looked at her best playing in the final against Caroline despite her big first serves not firing like she would have wanted to. Both the ladies broke each other couple of times each in the opening set before Serena Williams went on take it 6-3. Serena continued her with the dominance in the second set as well by taking an early break in the second set. The New York crowd saw an overwhelming Serena Williams lie on court as the return from Caroline went wide. Williams broke down in tears as Caroline Wozniacki went to congratulate her friend.

Serena Williams has had a disappointing result so far in the year’s grand slam not being able to move past fourth round but a win here at Flushing Meadows erased all the disappointing memories. Her dominance in the tournament can be measured from the fact, she won it without dropping a set or losing more than three games in a set!
