Having managed 20 goals in the group stage, Real Madrid will now be looking to improve on their record in Germany. Real Madrid have played 52 Champions League games against ten different German opponents but the 1st leg Round of 16 tie will be their first ever meeting with FC Schalke 04.

Cristiano Ronaldo who scored a record nine goals in the group stage will be playing after spending three matches on the sideline through suspension.
