Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal: Who is the man to beat in Wimbledon 2014?

This year it is Andy Murray who is the defending champion at Wimbledon this year. Murray created history last year, by winning the Men’s Singles title to become the first British winner since Fred Perry in 1936. But the names of seven times Wimbledon winner Roger Federer and twice winner Rafael Nadal are most talked about as the next likely winners at SW16.

Roger Federer clinched his seventh ATP Halle Open title on Sunday, as he defeated the Colombian Alejandro Falla. The World No. 4 fired five aces to improve his record to 46-5 in 12 appearances at Gerry Webber Open. Federer’s win in Halle, Germany becomes much significant in the Men’s tour as it widens the prospects of contenders ahead of Wimbledon 2014. In the very same tournament, newly crowned French Open 2014 winner and World No.1 Rafael Nadal, lost in the opening round to little-known German wild card Dustin Brown in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

Roger Federer after losing to Ernests Gulbis in the fourth round of French Open this year made his intent clear about winning the Wimbledon Championship 2014. The Swiss Ace is currently tied on seven titles each with William Renshaw of Britain and Pete Sampras of United States. With a rejuvenated Federer eyeing his record eighth title at Wimbledon, and upsetting results of Rafael Nadal on the grass court, the Men’s tour has widened again.

Apart from Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, there are many names that aspire to lift the prestigious trophy at Wimbledon this year. The likes of Novak Djokovic, who might make amends after losing in French Open finals; defending champion Andy Murray; Stanislas Wawrinka, who reached semi-finals of the warm-up event; young star like Grigor Dmitrov, who won Queen’s Club final, are also tipped to create upsets in the tournament.

You people need to understand that tennis doesn’t revolve around Federer Nadal, not anymore. It may be the case till 2010, but now its distant memory. Murray and Djokovic both are the men to beat ahead of Federer and Nadal. All 4 are favorites but days of Fedal domination are over.

    • Fedal

Oh really?? Time will tell, but I won’t put Andy and Novak too quickly down as the favourites and write off Fedal so quickly. Lets wait and see what the young guns are up to this fortnite.

I didn’t write Fedal off. But Andy and Novak are bigger favorites this Wimbledon than Fedal. Just because Fedal are most popular doesn’t mean they are best right now. If it was upto popularity, Novak and Andy wouldn’t have won even a single slam because Fedal lover never see anything they don’t want to see.

Who did u put as a favorite ? THE LOSER SCOT ?

Dude u need to understand that FEDERER, NADAL and NOLE are great champions. MURRAY IS A LOSER and has nothing to do with the big three.

Since the loser won wimbledon in 2013 he is TITLESS in the last 12 months.

Up until now the big three won 37 slams. the loser just 2.

Really dude DO U KNOW WHAT TENNIS IS ?
