Neil Narvekar sets record with 29-ball century, had remained unsold in IPL!

Bat and ball

Definitely the best day of 26-year-old Neil Naverkar’s cricketing career as the Parkophene Cricketers batsman knocked a blazing 29-delivery century during a Dr HD Kanga Cricket League ‘B’ Division match on Sunday. He belted his opponent and host Khar Gymkhana as the left-handed batsman smashed six fours and 12 sixes in his magnificent innings. The innings became more fulfilling for Neil after he was left unsold at last year’s IPL auction!

Naverkar who has still to represent Mumbai will definitely find his latest innings as career-building point. Naverkar came close to being part of cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament but could not find any buyer for he was not  a known face. The southpaw’s joy clearly had no bounds after he reached his half-century in mere 11 deliveries. His brilliant innings was witnessed by his proud parents in stand.

Breaking and setting up new records is part and parcel of any sport but the record becomes much sweeter for a player who has been sidelined by a tournament (read: IPL) that requires such hard-hitting batsman. And it must have come as a relief for Naverkar to prove himself and run among the leading frontrunners for upcoming tournaments.
