(Catch live score updates of Champions League Group B match between Liverpool and Real Madrid at Anfield here)

And that is all at Anfield as Real Madrid, the reigning champions have registered their first ever victory over Liverpool in the Champions League. Karim Benzema’s brace after Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener hands Brendan Rodgers’ side their second straight defeat in the competition. The Reds have only three points and are level with Ludogorets and FC Basel, who have one wins each from three matches. Thank you all for tuning in for tonight’s coverage, it’s good night and goodbye from me.

Goal Alert: Ludogorets 1-0 FC Basel (Veselin Minev)

90′: Not even a consolation goal for Liverpool as Anfield breaks into a chorus of You’ll Never Walk Alone. We have just two minutes of added time at Anfield. Conceding from set pieces, poor defending, unable to string together a number of passes have been just some of Liverpool’s problems this evening.

Goal Alert: Anderlecht 1-2 Arsenal (Andy Najar – Kieran Gibbs, Lukas Podolski); Atletico Madrid 5-0 Malmo (Koke, Mario Mandzukic, Antoine Griezmann, Diego Godin, Alessio Cerci)

84′: Liverpool are looking to score a goal as Glen Johnson looks to find Sterling with a cross from the right only to see former Liverpool player Arbeloa head it away for a corner. Nothing comes off it as the ball is cleared towards the half-line from where Moreno hopes to create a goal but the ball rolls away fro a goal kick. Substitution – Real Madrid: Nacho replaces Marcelo at leftback.

Goal Alert: Galatasaray 0-4 Borussia Dortmund (Aubameyang  x 2, Marco Reus, Adrian Ramos)

82′: Substitution – Real Madrid: Asier Illarramendi is brought on in place of Toni Kroos.

80′: Attempt – On-target – Real Madrid: Isco breaks down the left and finds Benzema whose shot is blocked by Skrtel and cleared poorly only towards Modric. The Croatian looks to get his name on the scoresheet but manages to get the ball only as far as Mignolet.

75′: Substitution – Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo is off as Ancelotti would like to rest him for the El Clasico on Saturday. Sami Khedira is his replacement.

73′: Attempt – Off-target – Real Madrid: Liverpool break from the left and despite making a couple of passes inside the box fail to shoot and Markovic is caught offside. The visitors break and James Rodriguez finds Benzema on the right, who returns the ball to the Colombian but his shot is just inches wide off Mignolet’s left goal.

Goal Alert: Anderlecht 1-0 Arsenal (Andy Najar)

70′: Attempt – On-target – Liverpool: Sterling tries to break Casillas’ clean-sheet with a curling effort that is dipping inside into goal. But the Spaniard palms it away for a corner, which is eventually wasted away.

67′: Substitution – Liverpool: Two changes from Brendan Rodgers as Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho are replaced by Lazar Markovic and Emre Can.

Goal Alert: Atletico Madrid 3-0 Malmo (Koke, Mario Mandzukic, Antoine Griezmann)

63′: Attempt – On-target – Real Madrid: The visitors are strolling past the Liverpool defence as Isco has plenty of space on the left wing to pull the ball back for Benzema, who in-turn sends Ronaldo through on goal. It looked as if the fourth goal was coming but Mignolet did well to block the shot and send it away for a corner.

Goal Alert: Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Zenit St Petersburg (Giulio Donati, Kyriakos Papadopoulos); Atletico Madrid 2-0 Malmo (Koke, Mario Mandzukic)

62′: Attempt – On-target – Real Madrid: Coutinho gives the ball away to Modric, who gives it to Ronaldo as he looks to break alongside Benzema. He gives the ball away in hope of finding the Frenchman but gets it back taking advantage of some poor passing from Liverpool defence. The Portuguese star sends a left-footed shot which is saved well by Mignolet.

60′: Liverpool are trying and trying but are simply unable to find any space in Real Madrid defence. Seems pretty evident that the Reds do not have the talents to match that of Los Blancos.

Goal Alert: Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Zenit St Petersburg (Giulio Donati)

55′: Kroos puts a neat ball down the left for Benzema, who beats Skrtel’s sliding challenge brilliantly, and races inside Liverpool box and tries to find Ronaldo; only to see his pass intercepted and cleared away by Lovren.

49′: Attempt – Off-target – Real Madrid: Liverpool fail to make anything from a corner and Real Madrid counter with Ronaldo, Benzema, Isco and James Rodriguez all marching forward. Benzema finds Rodriguez on the right, who cuts in on Moreno and tries to curl a shot towards Mignolet’s far post which is high and wide.

Goal Alert: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Malmo (Koke)

46′: Real Madrid will now get us underway and will certainly be looking to expand the scoreline. Substitution – Liverpool make a change as Mario Balotelli is taken off and Adam Lallana is brought on in his place. Sterling to play as the striker now I believe.

Liverpool fans will undoubtedly be hoping that their side will respond and get a goal or two or three to salvage at least a point. Real Madrid have just proved to be too strong for Steven Gerrard and his players. Efforts from Allen and Coutinho have been the only serious opportunities apart from Gerrard’s long-range effort that Liverpool have created. Balotelli has looked extremely poor and is yet to prove that he is the player who can keep the Reds’ alive in the Champions League.

The last time Carlo Ancelotti’s AC Milan team wearing white shirts led Liverpool by the exact scoreline at half-time in Istanbul, they went on to lose the match; crowning the Reds champions of Europe for the fifth time. Can Brendan Rodgers take a leaf of Rafael Benitez’s page and spark an impossible come-back?

Half-time at Anfield: Liverpool 0-3 Real Madrid (Karim Benzema x 2, Cristiano Ronaldo)

45′: Attempt – Off the post – Liverpool: Philippe Coutinho does well to create space for himself by beating Toni Kroos in the middle of the park and send a screamer towards the goal. But the Brazilian and Liverpool are unlucky to see the ball bounce back off the upright; keeping Casillas’ cleansheet intact.

43′: Attempt – Off-target – Liverpool: Brendan Rodgers’ side look for an immediate response as Balotelli pulls back to find Joe Allen outside the box but the Welshman’s shot swings wide as Casillas dives full stretch in hope of preventing the home team from scoring.

Goal Alert: Galatasaray 0-2 Borussia Dortmund (Aubameyang  x 2, Marco Reus)

41′: GOAL – Real Madrid: Karim Benzema doubles his tally for the evening after finishing off the corner. The French striker set up Ronaldo on the counter but Johnson cleared it away for a corner. Liverpool defended poorly and Mignolet darted out in an attempt to gather the ball, allowing Benzema to make it 3-0 for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

35′: Yellow Card – Real Madrid: Toni Kroos is booked for a cynical pull on Sterling as the teenager tries to create something on his own from the left.

GOAL ALERT: Olympiakos 1-0 Juventus (Pajtim Kasami)

30′: GOAL – Real Madrid: Ronaldo wins a corner on the left and Liverpool appeared to be momentarily safe despite failing to clear their lines fully. Isco played the ball to Kroos, whose cross is perfect for Benzema at the far post. The Frenchman’s looping header lands straight into Migonlet’s far post and the visitors are cruising!

28′: Attempt – Off-target – Real Madrid: Benzema controls the ball well and holds off Johnson. The Frenchman gives it to Ronaldo, who makes a little space for himself and shoots under pressure from Gerrard, only to see it fly wide down Mignolet’s left post.

23′: GOAL – Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo starts a move and finishes it off to score for the first time at Anfield. The 29-year-old exchanges passes with Benzema and gives it to James Rodriguez, who returns the favour with a delicate chip behind Liverpool defence and the Portuguese star slaps the ball past Mignolet to put the visitors into the lead.

18′: Sterling and Moreno link up well on the left and the latter delivers a cross in hope of finding Balotelli. Varane heads it away and Real counter with Isco. The visitors retain possession for quite some time and try to find space between the Liverpool defence. Ronaldo tries to find James Rodrigues but the Colombian loses his footing a little and the ball strikes his arm; the referee is obliged to give a free-kick.

Goal Alert: Galatasaray 0-2 Borussia Dortmund (Aubameyang  x 2)

12′: Liverpool win a corner after Gerrard’s shot is blocked by Pepe. The first corner is cleared for another by Ronaldo. The second one bothers Casillas as he had to come out and get a touch on it to prevent any player with a red shirt from scoring; and Real eventually  clear their lines. Meanwhile, James Rodriguez is being treated for a nasty gash on his forehead that is bleeding and needs treatment; the Colombian is back after changing his shirt.

10′: Attempt – On-target – Liverpool – Saved by Casillas: Steven Gerrard tries his luck from far and the dipping ball is saved well by Casillas.

8′: Attempt – On-target – Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo beats Glen Johnson on the right and looks to score but the ball is straight at Mignolet. We have our first goal of the night as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has given Borussia Dortmund the lead against Galatasaray.

5′: Balotelli wins possession and plays it to Johnson who gives it to Gerrard. The skipper delivers a beautiful pass towards Sterling that beats Pepe. The 19-year-old forward is bundled down by Arbeloa but the referee has no intentions to give a free-kick and waves play on.

4′: Liverpool look to create an attack and Lovren crosses the ball inside the box towards Henderson, but the midfielder is adjudged to have handled the ball and Real can clear their lines!

1′: Liverpool will kick-start the half and are attacking their favourite Kop end as Casillas won the toss. Early foul given by Henderson on Ronaldo in the middle of Madrid half.

We are less than five minutes away from kick-off and it is surely going to be an exciting night. Real Madrid are definitely the stronger side on paper. But then on a fine night Liverpool are capable of pulling off the most unlikeliest of surprises against their toughest opponents with the Kop roaring behind them. What do Brendan Rodgers’ side have in store for the 10-time European champions; we shall see!

We saw 40 goals scored in eight matches on Tuesday evening where teams from Group E to H were in action, setting a new matchday record for most goals scored. Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk too were among the highscorers with their 7-0 mauling of Belarus’ Bate Borisov.

Hello and welcome to India.com’s live commentary of the UEFA Champions League 2014-15 match between Liverpool and Real Madrid at Anfield. Both teams have had a contrasting season with the Reds finding life difficult following the departure of Luis Suarez. For the first time this season, Brendan Rodgers’ side managed to register back-to-back victories in the Barclays Premier League 2014-15 by narrowly beating Queens Park Rangers 3-2 at Loftus Road.

The challenge at the European stage is considerably difficult with a double header against defending champions and 10 time winners Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are on an eight-match winning run in which they have scored 32 times. But Liverpool have history in their favour as the Spanish capital outfit have lost all their matches against them, with their last meeting taking place in the round of 16 stage of the competition in 2009. Since then, both teams have gone through drastically different phases and Los Blancos are clearly the favourites to take all three points tonight.

Gareth Bale, Fabio Coentrao and Sergio Ramos are the notable absentees for the visitors while Jon Flanagan and Daniel Sturridge are injured for the hosts. Click here to read the preview, team news and probable lineup of the match
