Kolkata Knight Riders finally managed a win after streak of losses as they defeated Delhi Daredevils by eight wickets. Chasing the target of 161 KKR openers Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa once again laid a solid foundation with a century stand.
Gambhir and Uthappa put on 106 runs for opening wicket as Daredevils’ bowlers were ineffective to pick wickets. Gambhir was lucky to survive when Dinesh Karthik put down a straight forward catch in 6 over. Gambhir who scored 69 was on 18 then and his innings guided KKR to win.
Uthappa too played fearless shots as his innings of 47 runs included five 4s and a six. He was the first of two openers to be dismissed when Wayne Parnell trapped him in front of the wickets. After his dismissal KKR still needed 55 runs off 49 balls. Fresh from the collapse against Rajasthan Royals Captain Gambhir made sure things don’t get repeated and added 45 runs for the second wicket Manish Pandey (23*).
Strokes away from win KKR captain top edged Wayne Parnell’s short ball to Dinesh Karthik who took a terrific catch this time and giving Parnell his second wicket. Kallis (10*) and Manish Pandey then took Knight Riders past Daredevils total of 160 and secured third win for their team. Wayne Parnell (2-21) was the only bowler to take wickets while Mohamed Shami (0-23) went wicket less.
Earlier Late onslaught of runs by JP Duminy and Kedar Jadhav gave Delhi Daredevils bowlers a fair target to defend. Losing two quick wickets pegged back DD but Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik brought the stability and then after their dismissal it was the duo of Duminy and Jadhav once again to up the ante towards the end. For DD 54 runs came in last four overs and with that their total went up to 160-5 in 20 overs. Shakib Al Hassan (1-13) and Umesh Yadav (1-26) were economical while Jacques Kallis (1-38) and Sunil Narine (1-38) went for plenty in last overs.
With this win KKR is now up at fourth place on points table while DD is bottom placed.
