India player Sania Mirza and her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black faltered in the finals of the BNP Paribas Open Tournament tennis 2014 in the Indian Wells. Fifth seed were done in by superb match play by the top seed China and Taiwanese duo Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-Wei in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-2.
Fifth seed Sania Mirza and Cara Black will have to be content with the runner’s up trophy as they faced a tough opponents in form of the top seed. Sania Mirza search for the first title in the year 2014 is extended with this loss at the hands of the Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-Wei who are maintaining a perfect record at the finals by taking the title away for 11times.
The top seeded player faced a massive challenge in their semi-finals match against the Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia and Samantha Stosur of Australia. They removed the experienced opponents in a tough 3-6, 7-6(5), 10-2.
With this win China’s Peng Shuai and Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-Wei take over the top position at the WTA rankings. The 28 year old duo has replaced the Australian Open 2014 champions Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.
As for Sania this is another heart-breaking loss at the finals of a major tournament after losing in the final of Australian Open mixed doubles this year. This is tenth time, Sania Mirza has been second best at the finals. She holds a record of 29-10 win-loss record at the women’s doubles finals.
