Australia, one of the favourites to lift the World T20 missed out on points while chasing a daunting target against Pakistan, now face a must win situation against defending champion West Indies.
Australia has all the fire power and need a valiant effort to cross the line. Aaron Finch scored runs against Pakistan but he was not in his zone. Take Glenn Maxwell’s innings out Australia had nothing to cheer about in their chase. In bowling department seamers struggled to counter and Brad Hogg Australia’s lead spinner could not fit in scheme of things for them, James Muirhead who is still in his early days might get a game as wicket in Sher- E- Bangla stadium favours spinners and Australia might be tempted to go in with two specialist spinners.
After losing to India, West Indies came back strong to defeat hosts Bangladesh strikingly. Ironically Chris Gayle has looked calm in his approach so far, he has been scratchy and West Indies never plan him to be that way, his normal game is to attack. Spinners Samuel Badree and Sunil Narine will be play pivotal role in these spinning conditions. After Krishmar Santokie’s good show it is likely that Ravi Rampaul will sit on the bench for one more game.
Australia will be aware of West Indies spin challenge and to counter it batsmen have to step up to the occasion. West Indies middle order has not been in its flow and they need to execute before it is too late for them.
Impact Players: James Faulkner is back in Australian colours after injury and his presence will boost not only Australia’s batting but bowling as well. Captain Darren Sammy has to come good to strengthen his team’s contention for Semi-final spot.
Weak Link: Australia has a good looking pace attack but in spin department they lack edge, Brad Hogg did not look threatening against Pakistan. Contrasting to Australia, West Indies lack a fast bowler Krishmar Santokie is not express fast, his struggle against India showed how susceptible he could be against quality batsmen.
