French Open 2014 Day eight

Day Eight of French Open 2014 could also be called a blockbuster Sunday with some of the biggest stars taking on court at Stade Roland Garros. The tournament which started on 25th May, a week back finds itself left with few stars as far women’s singles draw is concerned. For the first time in the Open history, the tournament has lost his top three seeds before the round of 16.

After the surprise elimination of defending champion Serena Williams in the second round, the biggest name on the tour and hot favourite to win the trophy is Maria Sharapova. The seventh seed after a fantastic third round match will be facing  Samantha Stosur from Australia at the Court Suzanne Lenglen. The two have met on 15 occasions with the Russian leading 13-2 head-to-head.

On the Center Court of Philippe Chatrier, second seed Novak Djokovic will play Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Djokovic faced a tough fight against Marin Cilic in his third round before winning it in style. Djokovic looks determined to win his first French Open title.

The Court of Philippe Chatrier will also feature the match between fourth seed Roger Federer taking on Ernests Gulbis from Latvia for his place in the quarter-finals. The Latvian ace created a stir with his comments over the female participation in the professional tennis. This match would also be highly watched out.
