Andrea Petkovic played some fantastic tennis to beat tenth seeded Italian player Sara Errani in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 win. French Open 2014 has been full of surprises with seeded players falling short while new crop of young players have made it big. Following the similar trend was the quarter-final match between tenth seed Sara Errani and 28 seed Andrea Petkovic.

Andrea Petkovic making her maiden semi-finals appearance of her career at grand slam looked focused right from the start of the match. The match starting late due to the bad weathers posed trouble for both players with heavy winds blowing. In the first set, Sara Errani was leading 2-1 against the German Petkovic before the drizzles stopped the match on Court Philippe Chatrier. The game continued with Petkovic breaking Errani service with a brilliant forehand winner. She raced ahead to 5-2 lead in the first set with the over cast conditions and resumed the game back to win the first set 6-2.

The second set started with both the players breaking each other’s serve twice at 2-2. With the matches back on serve, it was Petkovic who upped the level of her game to hold her service and broke Errani’s service again to go 4-2. Petkovic’s ground strokes proved very difficult for Erani as the German won the match comfortably 6-2, 6-2.

She would be aiming to continue her fairy tale run and faces the highest seed left in the tournament, fourth seed Simona Halep.
