EPL Table & Results: Points Table and Team Standings at 2014-15 Barclays Premier League Week Eight

Cesc Fabregas

Liverpool registered back-to-back victories in the Barclays Premier League for the first time in the 2014-15 season after seeing off Queens Park Rangers in a hard fought 3-2 win at Loftus Road on Sunday. After a goalless first-half, Richard Dunne’s own goal gave Brendan Rodgers’ side the lead in the 67th minute. Philippe Coutinho put the Reds into the lead once again in the 90th minute after Eduardo Vargas had equalised for the home side.

The Chilean forward once again pulled QPR on level terms in injury time and thought he earned a point for Harry Redknapp’s side. However, a swift counter from Liverpool saw Raheem Sterling break down the left hand side and Steven Caulker turned home the teenager’s cross into his own net to gift their opponents all three points.

Stoke City outwitted Swansea City at the Britannia Stadium by two goals to one. Wilfried Bony had given the Welsh club the lead from the penalty spot but Charlie Adam restored parity before half-time after the Potters too were awarded a penalty. However, Jonathan Walters slammed home the winner in the 76th minute to secure all three points for Marc Hughes’ side.

On Saturday, Chelsea maintained their five point lead on top of the league table with another virtuoso display to defeat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park 2-1; with goals from Oscar and Cesc Fabregas. Fraizer Campbell netted a late consolation but wasn’t enough for Neil Warnock’s side to earn a point. Manchester City kept their pace against the current leaders with a thumping 4-1 win against Tottenham H0tspur, with the Argentine star Sergio Aguero scoring all four goals for the Citizens.

The plaudits however belonged to Ronald Koeman’s Southampton, who steamrollered Sunderland to inflict one of the most humiliating days in the club’s history with a stunning 8-0 win. Alan Pardew saw the mountain of pressure hanging over his shoulders ease somewhat after Gabriel Obertan helped the Geordies notch a 1-0 win against Leicester City at St James’ Park.

Manchester United will play against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Monday night.
