EPL Table & Results: Points Table and Team Standings at 2014-15 Barclays Premier League Week 37

Chelsea-vs-WBA

The Barclays Premier League 2014-15 took another step towards conclusion with matchweek 37 coming to an end with just one game to spare. The champions and top four finishers already decided and only Europa League places and one more team is due for relegation. Queens Park Rangers (QPR)  and Burnley will return to Championship football after just one season in top flight. Joining them could be one team from Hull City, Newcastle United or Sunderland.

Champions Chelsea were in action on Monday night and the Blues suffered a humiliating loss to West Bromwich Albion (WBA) at the Hawthorns. In a game that saw Cesc Fabregas for displaying his accurate with the ball, Saido Berahino netted a brace before Chris Brunt powered home a third through Thibaut Courtois’ near post.

The weekend’s focus was all on Merseyside with Steven Gerrard due to play his final game for Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds skipper will move to LA Galaxy in June but received a farewell after his team suffered a humiliating 1-3 loss to Crystal Palace. Adam Lallana opened the scoring but Jason Puncheon equalised with a stunning free-kick on the cusp of half-time. Wilfried Zaha and Glenn Murray piled more misery on Brendan Rodgers’ side by scoring in the second-half to seal the three points for the Eagles.

Although Anfield and Steven Gerrard were supposed to take the lead place in papers, one man from south coast ensured that isn’t the case. Southampton forward Sadio Mane shattered Robbie Fowler’s record (that lasted over 20 years) of scoring the fastest hat-trick in the Barclays Premier League. The legendary Liverpool striker’s goals came against Arsenal in August 1994 in a span of four minutes 33 seconds. But the Senegalese international netted rewrote history books by scoring his hat-trick in two minutes 56 seconds as Ronald Koeman’s side thrashed Aston Villa 6-1. Shane Long netted a brace and Graziano Pelle scored his first in three matches while Christian Benteke headed home the consolation late in the first-half.

Saturday’s round of matches also saw Hull City and Newcastle United remain on course to face relegation losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur and 2-1 to QPR respectively. Sunderland’s goalless draw against Leicester City put them one point away from the drop with two games to spare.

Sunday had Manchester City in action against Swansea City and a blockbuster clash between Manchester United and Arsenal in race for third and fourth place. Manuel Pellegrini’s side were stretched thoroughly for the three points as Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bafetimbi Gomis cancelled out Yaya Toure and James Milner’s first-half goals. However, Yaya Toure restored the visitors’ lead before Wilfried Bony scored against his former side to seal the three points for the Citizens.

Manchester United are already assured of a top four finish but the Red Devils suffered a slight setback in their chances of finishing third in the league table, which is a necessity for an automatic place in the Champions League. Ander Herrera’s sublime finish in the 30th minute proved inadequate as Tyler Blackett’s own goal gave the Gunners a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Arsene Wenger’s side are due to play Sunderland before finishing their campaign against West Bromwich Albion (WBA); thus retaining a chance for finishing as high as second.

I’m sad to see Frank Lampard back into EPL, especially when he plays against his former club. It taught us that… there is no such thing as loyalty BUT JUZ B PROFESSIONism. Chelsea shd hv kept him to train academy youngster in Chelsea, exactly what it is going to do with Drogba. The likes goes to long serving guy like JT , mainly bcoz these players bring Abranovic (Chelsea Owner) Not only the reputation, but also the European
History empanelled in the history of the club by delivering him the CL trophy !!!

if arsenal and man united can beat chelsea then both teams have a chance to even win the premier league. if thats the case, man united vs arsenal might also be a decisive game!
