EPL Table & Results: Points Table and Team Standings at 2014-15 Barclays Premier League Week 22

Giroud

It was indeed a Super Sunday in the matchweek 22 of the Barclays Premier League 2014-15 as Manchester City welcomed Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium in hope of reducing Chelsea’s five-point gap on top of the table. The first action on January 18 took place at Upton Park where West Ham United faced Hull City and emerged 3-0 triumphant courtesy of goals from Andy Carroll, Morgan Amalfitano and Stewart Downing.

Sunday did end on a high for the Gunners’ faithful as Arsene Wenger’s side convincingly trumped the reigning English champions 2-0. An inspired performance from Santi Cazorla gave the north London club their first victory at the home of the Citizens since 2010. The Spaniard netted a penalty and set up Olivier Giroud for the second with an inch-perfect delivery from a free-kick.

The week began with a bang as six matches were played simultaneously at 8:30 pm (IST) on Saturday. Tottenham Hotspur played hosts to Sunderland while Chelsea travelled to Wales to take on Swansea City. Manchester United and Liverpool too had away matches against Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa respectively while the final action of the day was at St James’ Park as Newcastle United welcomed top four penetrators Southampton.

League leaders Chelsea were on song as they humbled Garry Monk’s side 5-0 at the Liberty Stadium with the help of Diego Costa and Oscar’s brace before half-time as Andre Schurrle wrapped it up in the second-half. The result helped the Blues extend their lead on top of the table momentarily by five points.

After beginning the year with a stunning 5-3 victory over Chelsea, Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace. However, Maurico Pochettino returned to winning ways by beating Sunderland 2-1 Jan Vertonghen’s opener was cancelled out by Sebastian Larsson but Christian Eriksen secured all three points at the White Hart Lane with a late winner.

At Loftus Road, Manchester United needed second-half goals from Marouane Fellaini and James Wilson to secure all three points with a 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers. Liverpool too managed to produce the same result against Aston Villa through goals from Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert.

Southampton’s surge continued as they beat Newcastle United 2-1 to register their first double against the Magpies in a decade. Yoan Gouffran managed to score the equaliser with a bit of fortune after Eljero Elia had scored his first in the league to put the Saints ahead in the 14th minute. However, the January arrival from Werder Bremen displayed tremendous pace to secure a fifth straight win in the league for Ronald Koeman’s side.

I’m sad to see Frank Lampard back into EPL, especially when he plays against his former club. It taught us that… there is no such thing as loyalty BUT JUZ B PROFESSIONism. Chelsea shd hv kept him to train academy youngster in Chelsea, exactly what it is going to do with Drogba. The likes goes to long serving guy like JT , mainly bcoz these players bring Abranovic (Chelsea Owner) Not only the reputation, but also the European
History empanelled in the history of the club by delivering him the CL trophy !!!
