EPL Table & Results: Points Table and Team Standings at 2014-15 Barclays Premier League Week 12

Wayne-Rooney-Arsenal

Matchday 12 of the Barclays Premier League 2014-15 season concluded on Monday with Southampton travelling to the Villa Park to take on Aston Villa. The Saints arrived into this clash after winning 11 out of 12 matches in all competitions. The hosts stormed into the lead through Gabriel Agbonlahor but Nathaniel Clyne’s 81st minute strike ensured Ronald Koeman’s side left Birmingham with a point.

Manchester United leapfrogged into the top four of the table with a clinical win, out muscling their old rivals, Arsenal with a 2-1 win at the Emirates. In what was familiar tale from the years gone by, Arsenal displayed all the flair and possession but little to offer in terms of chances. Antonio Valencia’s shot was deflected into the net from Kieran Gibbs, who was on the ground and Wayne Rooney roared back to form and showed his class with an exquisite chip. Olivier Giroud’s brilliant goal came late in the game and with that loss, Arsenal slumped to eight in the table.

In other matches that were played on Saturday, Newcastle United continued their good vein of form off late with Moussa Sissoko spinning and curling the ball to the top corner against Queens Park Rangers. Newcastle are now level on points with Manchester United but the victory was blighted with Ryan Taylor’s comeback after nearly two-and-a-half years on the sidelines ended in tears for the defender as he suffered yet another setback due to injury.

Manchester City too grabbed three points against Swansea after Wilfred Bony’s well-taken goal was bettered by Stefan Jovetic and Yaya Toure’s lovely goals and the defending champions were still still alive in the title race. Chelsea, meanwhile are sitting pretty at the top of the pile and continued their outstanding start by brushing aside West Bromwich Albion 2-0. Diego Costa continued his goal glut and Eden Hazard, too got on the scoresheet.

Everton, meanwhile earned a controversial winner through Romelu Lukaku, in what was a hard fought game which ebbed and flowed, but the Belgian striker was a couple of yards offside. Leon Osman, though walked away with the plaudits on what was the 400th occasion he stepped out in the Toffees’ jersey.

Liverpool continued their torrid run to the season with another loss and now find themselves languishing just above the relegation zone. Just as Crystal Palace put an end to the Reds’ title hopes last season at Selhurst Park, the Londoners were in full cry yet again. Despite going behind with just 90 seconds on the clock, they got three goals back to leave Liverpool at a lowly 12th.
