The Day 12 was highlighted with the golden gleam by ace boxer Mary Kom winning the gold medal in women’s fly 51kg category. In an otherwise average day for the Indian contingent marred by the controversy revolving around pugilist Sarita Devi’s biased judgement and poor performance by wrestlers. The day saw the women power come alive as athletes Tintu Luka and Annu Rani winning medals in their respective events while Indian women’s hockey team also ended their Asian Games campaign with a bronze medal. India however slipped one rung to 11th place in the medal standings with 50 medals including 7 gold, 9 silver and 34 bronze.
It was Annu Rani’s first attempt throw of 59.53m that won her the bronze medal in Women’s Javelin Throw Final. China’s Zhang Li went on to make new Asian Games record as she made a 65.47m throw, sealing the gold medal for her and China. While another Chinese athlete Li Lingwei threw her best of 61.43m to bag silver medal.
ATHLETICS: Women’s Javelin Throw Final: No good for Annu Rani as she faults in her fifth attempt while Zhang Li betters the Asian Games record after she throw the javelin for 63.98m in her fifth attempt. So betters her record is second placed Li Lingwei who throws 61.43m.

While her countrywoman Li Lingwei makes a throw of 61.07m to push Annu Rani to third place in Women’s Javelin Final. Annu Rani’s throw of 53.71m in the fourth attempt did not help the cause.
ATHLETICS: Women’s Javelin Throw Final: Annu Rani’s throw has dramatically dipped down to 52.76m in 2nd attempt and 53.91m in the third attempt but her first throw remains to be the highest in the competition and helps her lead the pack after three attempts of javelin throw.
ATHLETICS: Women’s 400m Hurdles Final: Ashwini Akkunji finishes fourth in Women’s 400m Hurdle Final behind Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya of Bahrain, Satomi Kubokura of Japan and Xia Xiao of China at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.
ATHLETICS: Women’s Javelin Throw Final: After the first attempt of javelin throw, India’s Anuu Rani is leading with the personal best throw of 59.53m. She is followed by Lingei Li of China with 58.74m and Yuki Ebihara of Japan with 58.72m.
ATHLETICS: Women’s 800m Final: India’s Tintu Luka won the silver medal in women’s 800m final after dominating the race for 750m before being taken over by Kazakhstan’s Margarita Mukasheva who took over the Indian to win the gold medal. Sushma Devi finished at the fourth position.

The 32-year-old Laishram Sarita Devi was heart-broken and distraught after losing her controversial semifinal bout, stunned officials and spectators by refusing to accept the bronze medal, which is now in the custody of organisers. The lightweight (60kg) boxer was in disbelief yesterday when she lost against home favourite Jina Park, who ended up as the silver-medallist. Sarita was clearly the better of the two pugilists but the judges thought otherwise. Women’s 3rd/4th place finish match:The two goals by Vandana Kataria and Jaspreet Kaur nailed the bronze medal match for India as they defeated Japan by 2-1 at the at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium. They had missed out on being part of the finals after losing to South Korea but they make amends today with this thumping win over their former nemesis of 2010 Asian Games.
Penalty corner awarded to Japan with eight minutes to go for the bronze medal match to get over. The Indian defense does well to save the eqaulizer from being hit and we hear ‘Popeye, The Sailor Man’ tune played at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium.
Women’s 3rd/4th place finish match: Akane Shibata scored the GOAL for Japan in the early minutes of 3rd quarter to level the score line but India’s Vandana Kataria again gave India the lead of 2-1 as she scored the GOAL a minute later in 42nd minute. India leads 2-1 against Japan at the end of 3rd quarter in the bronze medal match.
Women’s 3rd/4th place finish match: At the end of second quarter, India lead with 1-0 against Japan with the sole goal of Jaspreet Kaur in 23rd minute.

After the controversial Sarita Devi bout that moved one to tears, it was another boxer, five time world champion MC Mary Kom who brought smile on every Indian supporter at Seonhak gym in Incheon and the ones watching her gold medal bout from around the globe. She became the first Indian woman boxer to clinch a gold medal at the Asian Games. Winning the first gold medal in boxing in the 17th edition of Asian Games was not an easy way as she made a fantastic comeback after giving her opponent Zhaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan the opening round lead. But MC Marykom was brilliant in the next three rounds of the flyweight (51kg) summit clash to win gold on Wednesday.

Men’s Quarterfinals: Indian team were on verge of upstaging the hot favourites Japan in the quarterfinals but their nerves proved too much to create this pleasant surprise as they went down fighting to Japan in five sets. They dominated over Japan in majority of the match but could not clear the last hurdle. They lost 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 13-15.

Men’s 130kg 1/8 Greco-Roman final: India’s Dharmender Dalal loses 0-4 against Babajanzadeh Darzi Bashir of Iran in their 130kg 1/8 Greco-Roman final.
TAEKWONDO
Women’s 57kg Round of 32: Aarti Khakal was ousted in round of 32 of the women’s 57kg taekwondo competition of the 17th Asian Games here Wednesday. Aarti, 22, lost 8-15 to Kazakhstan’s Ganiya Alzak at the Ganghwa Dolmens Gymnasium.
ATHLETICS
Men’s 50m Race Walk: India’s Sandeep Kumar finishes fourth and Bahadur Rana comes fifth in 50km Race Walk. They moved up by one place after Japan’s Yuki Yamazaki was disqualified. But Japan’s Takayuki Tanii won the gold, South Korean Chilsung Park took silver and Zhendong Wang settled with bronze.

The Day 11 of Asian Games 2014 was a day with mixed results for on one hand there were few heartbreaks in form of boxer Sarita Devi losing due to error on judgement to the grapplers and other pugilists having a tough day at work to highs like the Indian men’s hockey team entering the finals after a gap of 12 years. They edged past hosts South Korea 1-0 and stayed on course for their first Asian Games gold medal in 16 years. But it was Mary Kom who gave the first moment of celebration after she made her way through to finals.
On the Day 12 of 17th edition of Asian Games, all eyes will be on one star that has become a household name in India – MC Mary Kom. The Day 12 will also witness action from the track and field events as among the quartermilers, defending champion Ashwini Akkunji made it to the final of the women’s 400m hurdles. Jithin Paul also made it to the men’s 400m hurdles. Tintu Luka, and Sushma Devi also qualified for the women’s 800m final while Sajeeh Joseph made it to the men’s final. All of them will be in action at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium here Wednesday.
