#ShameOnTimesNow to Who's your choice for a one night stand: Journalism in India stoops to new low!

India-Today

Not even 24 hours have passed after leading news channel Times Now got it all wrong with their bashing of the Indian Cricket Team post the semi-final loss in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 that another publishing house has unknowingly joined the haters list. India Today group shared a video story by YouTube channel Fame Fashion asking people, “Which celebrity would you want to have a one night stand with?” In a country that is obsessed with what Sunny Leone is up to and the Times Now fiasco still fresh, the least they could have done was double check the contents of the video before publishing!

Times Now launched #ShamedinSyndey campaign against Team India on Thursday (March 26) after India’s defeat against Australia at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 semi-final. Good sense prevailed and to the disappointment of Arnab Goswami and his team, the campaign backfired with #ShameOnTimesNow trending throughout the hours that followed and remained one of the top trends even on Friday.

India Today‘s Facebook page stooped even lower. They pitted  Deepika Padukone and reality TV star Kim Kardashian, and asked “Who’s your choice for a one night stand?” Fame Fashion is the same YouTube channel that ironically uploaded a video titled Save Your Vagina on Women’s Day. How profound! Promoting women’s empowerment on the one hand and asking people which celebrity would you like to sleep with on the other? *Slow claps*

Tweeples started to trend #ShameOnIndiaToday to show their disgust.

Times Now‘s sister concern TOI Entertainment had also tweeted about Deepika Padukone’s cleavage that the actress reacted to strongly! Most of us are already aware that the Piku star is battling depression and recently gave an interview to NDTV about her struggles. But sensitivity is a word absent in the dictionary of India Today.

As for the one-night stand viral video posted by India Today, I wonder what kind of treatment awaits me, if I were to tell the female anchor in the video that I want to have a one-night stand with her! I am quite confident the same video crew would cause an outrage and accuse me of harassment. They would probably record and play it on loop on the Internet. Apart from beating me black and blue, I’m pretty sure numerous cases will be registered and who knows, they would even find my action worthy enough of a hashtag (#) to start a trend on Twitter!

What is wrong with India Today just posting a video, you may question. We feel that the video and their Facebook post is not asking for an opinion but simply an act of hypocrisy from an organisation that is believed to be a watchdog of the society!

Both India Today Group and the video creators, Fame Fashion channel run by LivFame must share the blame. Following the comments on social media, the post was deleted from the official Facebook page of India Today and the tweet too was deleted.

I’m pretty sure the father of Indian journalism Ramananda Chatterjee would be turning in his grave after the poor show by the fourth pillar of democracy. All this just to garner more eyeballs! Grow up, media houses. Allow future Journalism students to earn their daily bread! Do not kill the profession and most of all, do not instil fear in our minds and force us towards another field!

Watch the ‘Which Celebrity Would You Like To Have A One Night Stand With?’ video and decide for yourself:
