Satyamev Jayate 3, episode 4 live updates: Aamir Khan advises TB patients on the risks of not completing their treatments

Today’s subject of discussion in Aamir Khan’s chat show Satyamev Jayate was Tuberculosis and its severity. Tuberculosis or TB is one of the most fatal and infectious disease that attacks the lungs of and individual and eventually spreads on to other parts of the body (if proper medication is not taken). Aamir has tried to effectively put light on various aspects of the disease, including the efforts put in by the government through its DOTS programme to tackle this deadly disease. Despite all the efforts, we have still not succeeded in ruling out the disease completely from India.

Update 1:40 pm:

Aamir the host of the show became teary eyed in the middle of the show. He explained that in the last five years he and his Satyamev Jayate team has witnessed so many things that he feels emotionally drained from within. Aamir also expressed his desire to take a break from the show, at the same time promised to come back again. Though this statement indicated to few that this could be the last episode of the season, Mr Perfectionist clarified to the audience that he will have two more episodes. The last episode, which will be the Maha Episode, will be aired on 9th of November will also be dealing on an important subject.

While concluding the episode, the host said that proper diet and nourishment is important to fight against the TB bacteria. The Tuberculosis virus mainly attacks the malnourished people with low immunity. Proper diet, timely medicines, determination and support from the society and family can help you fight this deadly disease. 

Update 1:20 pm:

Tuberculosis can be tackled only if you stick on to the basics of treatment and effectively follow it. Most people in our country are not aware of TB, its types and the extent of its severity. Hence proper awareness can only help us tackle and eradicate Tuberculosis. Besides, medicines a TB patient also needs love and affection from the family to recover. Our Government hospitals must be equipped with all the amenities and medicines like private ones to ensure the poor and needy gets proper and timely treatment for TB.

Update 1:00 pm:

Aamir says, ‘If the cough prevails for more than 2 weeks, get the spit test for TB done immediately.’ A Tuberculosis patient needs to do regular check ups, even after they have been completely cured to ensure they don’t contract TB again. The patient also needs to know which type of TB he has to get proper and effective medications. A ‘Gene Expert Test’ will help the patient identify the type of TB within 2 hours. According to the statistics, MDR Tubeculosis, (one of the severe forms of the disease) is on a rise in India. Every one out of four TB patients in India are suffering from MDR. 

Update 12: 45 pm: 

Aamir Khan in the first half discussed on the aspects that you need to deal with throughout the treatment of a TB patient. The host advises the patients to complete the treatment mentioned to them by the doctors for quick recovery. Even if you are feeling better after few months of treatment, one must ensure that they complete the 6 months treatment course without fail. Besides, one have to follow all the protocols set for the patients to avoid the further spreading of the disease.
