Sunny Leone’s fans won’t be disappointed with her ample display of sensuality in Ekta Kapoor’s film Ragini MMS 2. Revealing cleavage in every outfit, she looks pretty (although not so young), dances well, and also acts decently – even as the ghost (smirk). Not to mention her sex scene in the shower and in the bedroom. And, oh yeah, her fake orgasm which competes with Vidya Balan’s fake orgasm in The Dirty Picture.
So does Ragini MMS 2 open with a Hanuman Chalisa? Oh yes, it does! After the ghost makes an entry, that is. It’s probably a good idea for people to chant the sacred ghostbuster of a mantra before watching a horror film. That’s what Ekta Kapoor might’ve thought.
What’s the story? The film picks up where the first movie Ragini MMS left off. Director Rocks (Parvin Dabas) is making a movie based on the story of Ragini who is now in a mental asylum and is possessed. He hires pornstar Sunny Leone for the lead part. (We think Sunny’s real identity has been planted on purpose here.)
So Rocks and team are shooting the film in a haunted house and that’s where the ‘horrex’ story of Ragini MMS 2 unfolds. If you get scared watching ghost movies, you will be afraid watching some scenes.
But overall, the ghost sequences are so predictable that the audience was giving cues and laughing about it in the theatre. Director Bhushan Patel shows the same ol’ creaking doors, The Exorcist and The Sixth Sense kind of sightings of unhappy spirits, and the spirit changing bodies like clothes. There are also funny in-film placements of BlackBerry phones and Manforce condoms (endorsed by Sunny in real life).
The film picks up in the second half when the back story comes to the fore. And the climax is as gripping as a horror movie could have.
The other characters in Ragini have been etched out well though. And actors like Divya Dutta, Parvin Dabas, Sandhya Mridul, Karan Mehra, Saahil Prem and Soniya Mehra have done justice to them. A special mention for Sandhya who does a cool act as a Rakhi Sawant-type starlet who speaks English in a funny way, as also Karan who plays a cheeky TV star-turned-Bollywood hero.
We wonder what Ekta’s old muse Anita Hassanandani was doing in Ragini MMS 2 though. She has a small part as an assistant director to Rocks.
But no doubt about it – Sunny Leone is the star of the movie and if you’re her fan, she will keep you wanting for more. One man in the theatre actually said that she looked good with clothes on! This means that Sunny has arrived as a Bollywood actor, especially after her uninspiring show in Jism 2 and Jackpot.
Even with that there were at least two people in the first day, first show of Ragini MMS 2 who left the film half way and some more who wanted to leave. Generally though, Ragini MMS 2 is a good one-time watch if you like the ‘horrex’ genre. Otherwise, just enjoy the songs Baby Doll and Chaar Botal Vodka and leave it at that!
