Peepli Live co-director Mahmood Farooqui arrested on rape charges; sent to judicial custody
Peepli Live co-director Mahmood Farooqui has been arrested by Delhi police for allegedly raping a foreign national.
New Delhi, June 21: Peepli Live co-director Mahmood Farooqui has been arrested by Delhi police for allegedly raping a foreign national. Mahmood Farooqui has been sent to judicial custody for six days. According to reports, a United States citizen filled a complaint of rape against Farooqui in South Delhi’s New Friends Colony police station on June 19.

Taking action over the complaint, the Delhi police arrested Mahmood Farooqui and produced him before a local court. The court sent Farooqui to judicial custody for six days. The police has registered a case against Farooqui under IPC’s Section 376 and investigation is still on. (Also read: B-town stresses on importance of fitness on Yoga Day)
Mahmood Farooqui is husband of Bollywood film director Anusha Rizvi who directed Peepli Live. The movie was satirical comedy that explores the topic of “farmer suicides” and the subsequent media and political response. The film was produced by Aamir Khan.
