Mumbai, June 28 : Bollywood music industry came together to pay tribute to legendary music composer Rahul Dev Burman, here on his 75thbirth anniversary. A musical event was organised on Friday, that also featured singers and composers who had worked with the maestro, popularly known as Pancham da.
Bollywood writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar, singers Sonu Nigam, Himesh Reshammiya, Shaan, Anu Malik, Udit Narayan, Sulaiman, singer-composer Mithoon Sharma and actor-director Sachin Pilgaonkar were among the people present for the celebrations. Burman, who has numerous Bollywood melodies to his credit, imprinted his musical journey in the minds of music lovers and continues to inspire today’s generation.
“He is the biggest inspiration as a composer and I am sure there will never be any other R.D. Burman , there will never be any other Pancham,” said Malik. Talking about the good old days spent with Burman, Akhtar spoke highly of his talent and said he was much ahead of his time.
“I find Pancham’s music new. And that is the reason his popularity is increasing day by day,” he said. Considered to be the reigning king of Hindi film music in the 1970s and 80s, Burman is said to have revolutionised Bollywood music with various innovations.
The legend teamed up with famous Bollywood singers such as Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar during his career and even rendered his own voice to a few songs. He also collaborated with directors like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Gulzar, Dev Anand and Nasir Hussain and composed musical scores for more than 300 movies.
The singer was also honoured with numerous awards for his contribution to the music world. Burman passed away in January 1994.
