Lucknow, Dec 7 : A day after Uttar Pradesh government decided to rename Sant Ravidas Nagar as Bhadohi, BSP chief Mayawati, during whose tenure the district was carved out, today said the move is the result of a casteist mindset and political vendetta. It is another wrong decision taken by the SP government in Uttar Pradesh, the former Chief Minister said in a statement today.

The decision has been taken with a casteist mindset and due to political vendetta, it said. The Sant Ravidas Nagar district was created on December 4, 1997 during the regime of Mayawati. The decision to rename the district was taken during a meeting of the state Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav yesterday. “The decision to rename the district was taken on the recommendation of the District Magistrate,” an official spokesman had said.
