Bengaluru, Mar 24: A day after announcing a CBI probe into the mysterious death of an upright IAS officer, Karnataka government today issued an order entrusting the case to the central agency with a mandate to complete the probe in three months. Facing rising public outcry and pressure from Opposition, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had yesterday in the Assembly announced a CBI probe into the death of D K Ravi, and asserted that his government never intended to hush up the case or protect anyone.

There had been a clamour for CBI probe from Opposition parties and the family of Ravi, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his flat on March 16. The state government had handed over the probe to CID.

“Government hereby accords sanction for investigation into unnatural death of D K Ravi, IAS officer, registered at Madiwala Police Station, Bengaluru, under UDR No. 47/2015 u/s 174 CrPC (Police to enquire and report on suicide) to the Central Bureau of Investigation under section 5 & 6 of Delhi Special Police Establishment Act 1946,” the government order issued today read.

“The concerned Department/officers/officials/others shall handover data/information/records as and when required by Central Bureau of Investigation and co-operate in the investigation,” it said. The CBI shall investigate the matter within three months and take necessary action, it added.
