UPSC aspirants clash with police, burns vehicles

Aspirants of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) protested in North Delhi demanding scrapping of C-SAT (Aptitude Test) yesterday. About 500 to 700 protesters blocked the road around 8:30 in the night.

Candidates clashed with police and burnt vehicles including a police jeep and pelted stones near main highway by-pass road in the Burari area in Delhi. Police had to use tear gas canisters and resort to lathi charge to disperse the mob.

Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Goel said, “A police jeep was set on fire. One bus was partially burnt in the incident along with some bikes and cars. Police used force to disperse them from main roads.”

About 20 of the protesters have been detained and a case has been filed against them for rioting and causing damage to the public property. Delhi fire services received a call about the fire on the police jeep at about 8:50 after which they rushed to the spot.
