As Super Kings host Kings XI we take a look at some key players
Chennai Super kings (CSK) have once again been as consistent as they have been throughout the existence of the IPL, looking good for the play offs one more time. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on the other hand has had an uncertain journey this year. This match, which is going to be played at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai, is looked forward to by many fans because of the history the two teams have shared. Historically, matches between these two teams have been high scoring and entertaining to its limits. Fans would be once again be hoping for the big guns in the two teams to fire and create some much needed magic in this year’s IPL. Here’s Abhimanyu Shahi taking a look at some of the star players for today’s match. Also Read- Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab Match Preview.
Glenn Maxwell- It won’t be an understatement to say that Glenn Maxwell loves this team to bat against. He has had scores of 89 and 95 in the two group matches last year. He has developed a very famed battle against Ravichandran Ashwin, CSK’s mainstay in the bowling attack. Maxwell hasn’t been of much help to Kings XI this season and has failed on the numerous chances. He gets another chance today to show everyone why he is rated so highly in the shortest format of the game.
Shaun Marsh – Marsh wasn’t given a chance in the playing eleven till the last game. Once he got his opportunity, he pounced onto it like a champion. Marsh is one of the most serene batsmen you will find on the planet. It’s just beautiful to watch some of the shots he plays. With form and luck in his favor he would be one of the main threats to the Super Kings in this match.
Ashish Nehra- Nehra has been revelation with the ball this season. He has been bowling with pace, swing and control and has looked by far the best seamer this season. With 10 wickets already in his bag, he looks like a fierce competitor for the purple cap this season. Virendra Sehwag, who has been trolling Nehra throughout this season, will know the fact that his first spell would be important for the result of the game.
Suresh Raina- Raina showed signs of his old self in his last game. He struck six fierce sixes against the RCB bowlers and scored a much awaited half century. He has scored more than 400 runs in each season so far. Going by the form that he showed last match, you wouldn’t be surprised if he crosses that mark once again. Raina scored a magnificent 87 of just 25 deliveries, the last time he faced this team. It won’t be a huge surprise if he smashes the kings XI bowlers all over the park. Brendon McCullum- Last time when McCullum faced Mitchell Johnson, he smashed all over the ground back in the world cup. With a couple of failures in the last few games, he would be keen to stamp his authority in this tournament once again. He is the only player to score a century this season and would love to repeat that performance against the KINGS XI.
