Mumbai, Jul 23: Japanese car maker Honda will launch its much awaited MPV Mobilio in India on Wednesday. The 7-seater is expected to give tough competition to Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova. The launch comes close on heels of successful launch of Honda City 2014.
All the major car makers in India have already entered the MPV market. Maruti Ertiga leads the market as more and more families opt for the three row MPVs over sedans. Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster Unlike the Ertiga, Mobilio also offers decent boot space. Mobilio offers Honda’s entry is only expected to give the market a big boost.
Honda is launching Mobilio in both the diesel and petrol variant. The petrol variant will be powered by 1.5 litre 16Vi.DTEC 4 cylinder petrol engine which generates power of 119 bhp at 6600 rpm. The diesel variant of the Mobilio will be powered by 1.5 litre 16 Vi. DTEC diesel engine generating max power of 100 bhp at 3600 rpm.
Though the price of the 7-seater MPV is not yet revealed, the petrol variant of Honda Mobilio is likely to start from Rs 6.5 lakh ex-showroom Delhi while the diesel one will be in the range of 7 lakh. The sportier looking Mobilio RS variant will be launched in India in September. The Honda Mobilio is already on sale in Indonesia.
The Japanese automobile major sales grew by 75 per cent in June 2014 at 16,316 units as against 9,297 units sold.
