Railway Budget 2014: Has nothing for the poor -Tariq Anwar

New Delhi, July 9 : Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP ) leader, Tariq Anwar today said that there is nothing for the poor in the Budget. Tariq Anwar told ANI, “Nothing new is presented in this railway budget. The lack of basic facilities for railway commuters nowhere seems to be handled in the budget.”

“Only those who travel through air will be availing the facility of Bullet trains, because the ticket prices will be set high. In that sense no step has been taken for poor commuters and migrating laborers. They should have started a few new trains for them or increase the number of ‘Garib Rath’ trains which were started by Lalu Prasad Yadav Ji,” he added.

Yesterday, Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda presented his maiden Railway Budget where he introduced a slew of reform measures to modernize Indian Railways. The Railway has proposed to bring in more transparency in administration and execution of projects. The status of ongoing projects will be available online, E-procurement will be made compulsory for procurement of higher amount and online registration of demands for wagons will be introduced within next two months.
